“I don’t like fairy tales!” Jason shouted. “I like adventure stories. You know, the ones about going into houses, and finding dead bodies lying all over the floor…”

“That’s enough!” Jill declared. “I think we have had enough of this nonsense. Jason, please do not talk about such cruel and unnecessary things.”

“Oh, I don’t know,” Jason began. “Maybe it is unnecessary, but not cruel.”

“I think it is unnecessary, cruel, and useless to talk about,” Jenny piped up.

“Well, Jack, you’ve been sitting on that there chair for the last half hour and haven’t said a word. What kind of stories do you like?” Jason asked.

“You’ll laugh at me,” Jack said.

“I won’t do that!” Jason assured him.

“Okay, I like stories about fairy tale princesses. Like Snow White and…”

“What? You like fairy tales? You’ve got to be kidding!” Jason yelped.

“I told you that you would laugh!” Jack screamed!

“Jack,” Jill reminded him. “It isn’t that bad. He laughed when I said I liked animal stories, remember?”

Jack nodded. “I remember you getting laughed at.” Jason hung his head. It wasn’t that he liked shouting or making fun of people, he just lost control- every time.

“I’m sorry,” Jason sighed. He made his was down the treehouse ladder. “Bye,” he called up. It was the only thing Jason could do to control himself-leave. Later: “Hi, guys,” Jason called.

“Jason!” the scream sent chills down Jason’s back. He scrambled into the treehouse, there on the floor was Jack-blood covered his face. Jill was lying on the floor as well- black eye and bloody nose. Jenny sat in the corner all tied up. Tears streamed down her face.

“Dead,” she sobbed. “He killed them.”

“Who?”

“Him…….” That’s when Jason noticed that Jill was smiling.

“She dead?” He asked.

“Yes, dead!” Jill then burst out laughing and Jack rolled over.

“It’s ketchup!” Jill blurted. “We aren’t dead!” Jill, Jack, and Jenny started laughing. Jason finally got the point. He to started laughing.

Tears streamed down all of their faces, and Jason ran to the house to get wet rags for them. Jason learned not to make fun of what other people liked. He also changed- no more ‘dead people’ stories.
